How the mighty have fallen Baheliya Rajpoots! In past we were once high in the Hindu caste system and part of a powerful Rajput army. After a key defeat, we had to hide in the jungles, where we survived by catching birds and animals, honey extraction, all considered inferior jobs. Taking such jobs led to them losing our favorable caste status. Usually landless, many work as day laborers, though we have a tradition of making fans with peacock feathers and selling the birds they catch.

" Baheliya Rajput, you are Educate, Agitate and Organize "
"you are Educate, Agitate and Organize "
By education is not mean merely certificates and degrees.
For me to educate means to become aware of ones real life conditions, to be conscious of ones surroundings, to raise objection to the inhuman existence in the society and to ask for change for the better.
“Tell the slaves he is a slave and he will revolt”, that is the real meaning of education.
It is such education that will stir agitation within, leading to what my called “agitate”.
To “agitate” does not mean to organise
guerrilla warfare, to do murda bad – murda bab. On the contrary it means to become aware about ones
social conditions and to seek viable steps for the eradications of the causes of the problems.
I tell u that only real and true education could only make us to “agitate”. And it is this agitation which is within that would ultimately help us to “organize”.
Thus the real sequence of the slogan is:
Educate, Agitate and Organise.

Baheliya's Forefathers Some Secrets And Moderns Baheliya's community
Baheliya's Forefathers Some Secrets And Moderns Baheliya's community :
Trapping of birds was an ancient art that was handed down from father to son. Bahelias were active not only in the jungles, but also in the hills, marshes and riverbeds. Birds were caught both in the day and night. Skill, patience and knowledge of bird life were a hereditary trait of the bahelias. The bird bazaar where Our forefathers sold birds. They provided a variety of birds, both for the pot and for those who were interested in acquiring pets. Lovebirds, the weaverbird and baya, bulbuls, piddis, lals, parrots, mynas, pigeons, partridge and quail were among the many varieties on sale. Pigeons, parrots and partridge are still easily available.
When our forefathers not using a net, then they used
other devices -- a heap of straw or a tree branch to approach the birds at close quarters. Traps were also used, and at night a light to blind the birds which sometimes involved the ringing of a bell to confuse them. The use of glue was also quite common. But more
than anything else it were the skill of the forefathers that helped him to succeed in his daily hunt.
We Want Stop Bird Hunting,We Never Want Bird Hunting Again. We Never Want To Learn Our Traditional Work Again & We Want To Live With Dignity.

Why the Baheliyas mighty have fallen ?
Why the Baheliya people are in Dalits ?
When we were once high in the Hindu
caste system and part of a powerful Rajput
army in past. Then suddenly how we lost
our social status. Accornding to many Great Indian history
writers,Baheliya Rajput warriors got a defeat in
the battle field.Then Baheliya Rajput
warriors had to hide in the jungles. Because we had lost our lands & jobs,so
we survived by catching birds and animals
in the jungles.
we forgetten that we were part of powerful
rajputana's and malwa's Army and we were
basically belongs to the warriors. Slowly slowly we adopted bird catching
and bird Selling for our traditional
work.Because all considered inferior
jobs,So we lost our favourable cast status. So Again we need to STOP BIRDS CATCHING
& STOP BIRD SELLING for again upliften of
our social status. we should left our traditional work & we
should join in Army,Civil
Services,Enggineering.Doctery, Forestry,Bird
& wildlife conservations,Politics & public
sector for feel the pride again.

BAHELIYA DVELOPMENT
We also hve children, families!
We also need to eat survive and grow;
Why then no one think about our welfare? Baheliya Dalits Development,
Is possible only through Govts!
Educated Baheliya must join,
Every Govt Services and every Govts!
But our work and labour sustains,
The People their Living and Economy;
Can we paid, at least the money other
kids
Get for playing, on the computers’ keyboards? People suffer because of betrayal by Leaders,
Their own Leaders, exploitation by the Govts,
Corruption by most Clerks, and their Officials;
Affecting every form of Growth, Development. We Baheliya are also People!
Why none talks about our Development?
Neither the Govts Officials Universities nor
Educated amidst our circles, working for others! Baheliya can never Develop in Private Sector!
They may get jobs money and even become Rich Quicker
But they will remain only employees and servants of the rich,
Working for them their wealth and growth, never understanding
Anything about private sector, private employers the way they work,
And their motives, the way they work, or about the private employees!

Akbar included a large number of Baheliyas and their commander was known as Hazaari.
Baheliya was one such community which had emerged as an important one in the fourteenth century during the reign of Muhammed bin Tughlak in Delhi. Since they were mainly concentrated in the region lying between Chunar and Banaras on the bank of the Ganga they used to be recruited from there and many were also given the ownership of twenty seven villages each as gifts. William Crooke informs us in his book that people who were hired as security guards of Akbar included a large number of Baheliyas and their commander was known as Hazaari.5 In 1772 when the Mughals conceded to the British many of them joined the British army. Along with the Baheliyas the Pasis who numbered nearly 1.2 million at that time also built up a reputation of being a courageous, brave and valiant community. 6 Posing a challenge to the laws, rules and orders of the East India Company they worked as the stick wielders, watchmen and security guards of the landlords and local kings and made a name for themselves as a stalwart martial community. Sleeman, who was on a capturing spree in that region in 1857, described the heroic Pasis by saying that many of them had formed their own armies and had acquired a considerable amount of land and property by committing robberies, murders and working as mercenary soldiers for small kings. 7 The chivalry of the Pasis has also been described in the folk epic Alha-Udal.8 Before that, in 1678 in the Bundelkhand region the army of the king of Chhatrasaal included, in addition to higher castes like Rajputs, Brahmins and Baniyas.

Modern India's development programs are greatly improving the lives of the Bahelia people. We are taking advantage of greater educational opportunities, and our literacy rate is improving, especially for boys. Our health care is also improving.
The Bahelia people live in Uttar Pradesh, a state where very few that follow Christ. We are virtually all Hindu.

Admn lets two hunger baheliya strikers die [Lucknow (Nov 2007)
LUCKNOW: Two villagers on hunger strike for over five days died in Etah and Bulandshahr, respectively, on Sunday, exposing shocking levels of administrative insensitivity.
Though in both the cases the protests were in the knowledge of the district administration since day one, none bothered to address the protesters till the two died within a span of 12 hours.
In Etah, about a dozen members of Baheliya community were sitting on a hunger strike since October 25 demanding caste certificates. Sometime back the Etah district administration had stopped issuing scheduled tribe (ST) certificates to the members of Aheriya clan of the Baheliya tribe. The administration's plea for not issuing the certificates, claimed protesters, was that Aheriya clan was not a part of Baheliya tribe.
In most of the districts, including Etah, Aheriyas were given ST certificates until recently. In order to press their demand, around a dozen members of the Aheriya tribe began an indefinite hunger strike from November 1. Late on Sunday night, one of the protesters Budhpal (50), fell unconscious and died at the hospital, confirmed additional district magistrate (ADM), Etah, Devendra Dixit on Monday. Condition of two other protesters was stated to be critical. District magistrate (DM), Etah, Shashi Bhushan Lal Susheel, who had earlier turned a blind eye to the protest, announced on Monday afternoon that ST certificates will now be issued to Aheriya clan members. When contacted for details of the case, the person who took the call on the DM's CUG number said that he had gone off to sleep.
If sources are to be believed, the district authorities were busy preparing documents to establish that efforts were made to convince the Aheriyas to withdraw their protest.

Baheliya's Present Circumstences
Traditionally the Behiliya economic activity revolved around bird catching and selling honey. In addition, there main economic activity remains manufacturing fans from peacock feathers. These fans are then sold to Bania middlemen, who sell them on in cities such as Kolkata and Delhi. As a Dalit community, they often suffer from societal discrimination. Each of their settlement contains an informal caste council, known as a biradari panchayat. This consist of five members who are elected by community members. The panchayat acts as instrument of social control, dealing with issues such as divorce and adultery.[1]
Baheliya Origin
The Baheliya are a tribal community of hunters and bird catchers, and the origin of their name is from the Sanskrit vyadka, meaning one who pierces, . They are mainly involved in bird catching, extracting honey from beehives and picking peacock feathers for the manufacture of fans. They are divided into a six groups, the Aheria, Gehlot, Sissodia, Karaul, Pasi and the Muslim Baheliya. Other minor clans include the Chandel and Srivastav. Each of these groups claim a Rajput origin, with the Sissodia claiming to be superior over the other groupings.
